- blt2skiModeratorThe only diesel I drive that I wait on is the 91 idi7.3. My dmax, MB sprinter van do not need a lot of warm up. Then spouses mb suv gas, or my 2500 there is no waitng on them either! On colder days, ie below 40F, the MB and GM do get a bit of a wait on the first fire up of the day, but once warmed up, not an issue. Or like the dmax when it has been sitting at the local ski area in winter, and temps are in the teens, I will wait before firing up, or sometimes do a 2nd run of the glow plugs.
marty - BB_TXNomadI used to forget and do that sometimes when I had the 6.0 F350. But not with the new 6.7 F350. No waiting on it so I got out of the habit.
- Artum_SnowbirdExplorerAfter replacing the glow plug relay on my 7.3 I learned that current flows through those contacts until the engine fires. Used to wait, now I give it a few seconds in the morning, and no time at all if it is already warm.
- Perrysburg_DodgExplorerWinter yes summer no. About the same routine as John. Although the Cummins does not use glow plugs but has a grid heater to warm the air. Still a good idea to wait until the light goes off before starting a clod diesel.
Don - DerekVExplorerI jump in our van turn the key on and look for the light to go out before I start it, but of course there is no wait to start like in a Toyota van.
- larry_barnhartExplorerI do not drive or tow any different with the diesel than I did with the 8.1 except would not shut off the diesel on a long climb and then stop.
chevman - John___AngelaExplorerYep. Daily driver is my diesel smart car. Turn the key to on position, put on seatbelt, check the gauges. By that time glow plug light is out. Crank it up and off we go. Do the same thing with the gasser. Force of habit.
- agesilausExplorer IIIInstant start on new models (6.7L):
"The new diesel engine features instant-start glow plugs, allowing quick start even in extremely cold temperatures."
BK - NC_HaulerExplorer..Well, mine doesn't have glow plugs, it has a heater grid, but YES, I've gotten in the wife's Jeep, turned the key to on and was going to wait for the grid heater light to go off :B My diesel truck is my daily driver so after driving it most of the time, yep....been there, done that, have to admit it...:)
- ArcticDodgeExplorerNot once in 9 years that I can recall... The diesel gets little use so remembering to wait has been forgotten a few times.
