yes,
many times on the way to church, I will be sitting there with the key on in the Toyota Van, waiting for the light to go out.
mama bear, said "what are you waiting for?" Of course you guys with older dodge diesels know, I was waiting for the light to go out. Then she says, start it up, you are not in your truck, so off we go, has happened more than once.
years ago, I drove an older model IH farm tractor, it did not matter if it was 106 degrees in the shade, you had to wait about 30 sec with the heaters on before it would start.
but, when it did start, just like my old dodge diesel, man o man would it work and pull.
Like the Cummins the IH was probably an in line 6. - maxwell11Exploreryes,

When you switch from Diesel to gas vechicle do you find yourself waiting for the glow plugs/ grid heater to warm up?
No gassers in my family. My truck is a daily driver, then 3 VW diesels for the wife and kids. - mowermechExplorer

No, never had that problem, but I did find myself looking for another gear in the truck after driving the Jeep for a while.
The truck had a 5 speed manual, the Jeep has a 6 speed!
Do NOT attempt to put a 5 speed tranny in reverse, thinking it is 6th gear, when going 65 MPH. It makes a horrible noise! - mike_mckExplorer

..Well, mine doesn't have glow plugs, it has a heater grid, but YES, I've gotten in the wife's Jeep, turned the key to on and was going to wait for the grid heater light to go off :B My diesel truck is my daily driver so after driving it most of the time, yep....been there, done that, have to admit it...:)
X2
I have the same issue, not so bad in the summer, I guess that I like the fact that my 01 Cummins starts on about a half a crank!! I don't wait for it to fire, I just hit the starter, for about a half crank, and release the starter. Once in a while, I release too soon and it doesn't start, need to hit again. - srt20ExplorerI have waited a few times in winter for the hemi grid heaters to warm. Lol.
I never wait for the heaters in the CTD anymore until its to cold out and she snips and snarls at me. Then I get reminded to wait for it. Usually not til it gets about 20* or less out. - recyclerExplorernope cause most gasser i drive have to be pumped alot before starting.... have started putting diesel in one though :S
- C_SchomerExplorerNo, cuz I never need to wait for my CTD. Craig

What's a glow plug? :B
They are just something else to go bad, burn up and have the tip fall into the cylinder and get stuck on the valve seat.
As you know real diesel trucks don't have glow plugs!
So how does it feel to be a smart axe?:h
