Time to say goodbye ...

Well after having owned our Jayco Jay Feather 17Z for a tad over 3 years, we have decided to move on (I know better than to say "move up" on these forums :) ) We will be getting a Flagstaff Super Lite 27 RLWS travel trailer. We were initially focusing on upgrading to a Rockwood Roo 23 IKSS but the price and storage differences between it and the Flagstaff made the decision clear for us.

We have had no issues with our great little Jayco but we know that it will be going to a good home in North Carolina. The new owners came and picked her up yesterday and were really pleased and excited with it - condition and modifications. I cannot tell you the mixed feelings I had when I signed over the title and watched it drive off! I can only hope that the new Flagstaff measures up to the Jayco in terms of reliability and lack of issues.

I fully expect we'll miss the airyness of the hybrid especially in the Fall when the AC can be switched off and the bunkends opened. We will also likely miss the shortness of the RV and the ability to go most anywhere, not to mention the ease of towing - both aspects that are likely to change significantly with the new RV.

We will also miss the HTT community and the discussions and camaraderie. I have learned lots on this forum and hopefully have also shared for others to benefit. Now I will be more on the Travel Trailer forum, but will probably still monitor things here.

  • I for one am jealous. Congrats. If I could I would do the same. Happy Trails
  • In taking a peek at the newer FR brochure, it looks like they have discontinued our 2604 and only the 2604WS with the larger wardrobe like you have is available. But they have something very similar to ours - can't remember the number - but it's pretty much just flip flopped with the kitchen in the front and the bedroom in the rear, as I recall. IIRC, fewer window$. If we had made that 2604WS choice, the wardrobe space in our TT would have been larger than in our MBR. The genius that designed our house put 2 huge walk-in closets in the secondary bedrooms and a marginal-at-best closet in the MBR. DH added shelving and I hit the organizer dept at Walmart. Also a floor standing, 5 drawer unit for both or us.....can't buy more clothes because I have no place to put them. DUH!

The young couple that bought our ROO received it on a Monday afternoon and said they were leaving on the following Sunday for the beach. We almost had a stroke! They must have been able to move at the speed we could at their age, because they were prepared, had done Camp Driveway a couple of nights and had a great time. Sent pix. The pix made me a bit sadder than actually leaving it in their driveway, but know it has a good home. Even before they bought it, they had already started an addition on their garage to store their RV, whatever it might be. They bought it sight unseen, just a zillion pictures and emails. When we met them at the bank, we assumed they'd want to at least walk through before they closed, but nope! Signed, sealed and THEN they got a look at their purchase. They were so excited and said it was so much more than they dreamed even with all the pix and emails.

Couple of quick extras.....your emergency window....they told us DO NOT PULL THAT LEVER!!! It's designed to drop straight to the ground and according to the tech, cannot be replaced. Maybe that is something that is a back to the factory thing, but meanwhile we keep the day shade down on that one just as a reminder.

Showed DH your pix and he's impressed....as well he should be, right? But we're concerned about something.....going from your cozy 17 to this palace, are you going to need a map to find your way around???

Also, what time is dinner??? What can I bring?? Happy camping!

I really do have to make some changes in our digital photo frame because it's all ROO and our great times. Time to add Rocky to the mix.

I'm assuming your sofa is the same as the one we have with the air mattress. Both of our DSs have slept on it and declared it really comfy.

That is certainly great to hear. We don't expect to have sleepover guests but if we do we know that they will be comfortable between the king-sized dinette and the sofa bed, thanks to your confirmation.

Well after camping in our popup and then our HTT with clothes all over the place (popup) or on the other bed (HTT) we had to have a wardrobe. This one has several including the slideout wardrobe, so we have gone to the other extreme. It is all good though since it can be used otherwise also.

You are absolutely going to LOVE that garden shower! You can actually turn around and everything!!

I am fully expecting that. I even went out and got the obligatory Oxygenics BodySpa today so that is the first mod. Can't do without my Oxygenics!

Love the dinette you have. We have the standard style, but slightly larger than our ROO. We very rarely have more than the 2 of us, but the smidge larger makes having an extra or two for a meal more comfortable.

Same here, although sometimes we camp with another couple and they come over for dinner, so now we should all be able to sit at the table.

Thanks again and we are looking forward to it.

By the bye, the new owners called me today to say that their trip back home to NC was going great and they are still over the moon at having got our baby. I was go happy to hear that. I told them that we wanted pictures when they take their planned October camping trip. Looking forward to that also.

  • Huge congrats on that beauty! We made "the move" this past May from our beloved ROO 23SS to a Rockwood Ultra Lite 2604 and know the pain of emptying out your HTT and seeing it leave - in our case we took it to it's new family and we left it. We had already picked up our 2604, so the feelings were mixed, but it has a great new home and they're close enough that we may be able to camp together some time. Great young couple with a darling 3 year old daughter...not sure who was more excited about it.

I'm assuming your sofa is the same as the one we have with the air mattress. Both of our DSs have slept on it and declared it really comfy. Before you make a trip to Walmart to get an airpump.....you don't need to because it has one built in. Fills in only a couple of minutes and deflates just about the same time. So not at all like making up a bed every night other than the linens.

Your bedroom looks pretty much the same other than the wardrobes, which we had no need for. We do have a narrow one on each side of the bed and that is perfect for us.

You are absolutely going to LOVE that garden shower! You can actually turn around and everything!!

I lost some counter space in the kitchen, but it's still workable, just have to rethink how I do things. You are going to have room for a huge buffet!

Love the dinette you have. We have the standard style, but slightly larger than our ROO. We very rarely have more than the 2 of us, but the smidge larger makes having an extra or two for a meal more comfortable.

I didn't know if I'd like the day/night shades since we were perfectly happy with the mini-blinds we'd added in the ROO......awesome! We have the large picture window in the rear where your TV and side windows are and it's so nice to enjoy the view from that area.

From the time of our '07 ROO, FR made some really nice changes. DH is really happy about the black tank rinser. We had a Tornado, which served it's purpose, but required him to get on all fours at dumping time to hook up the hose. Now he just stands up and attaches the hose. Easier to reach the dump valves, too.

We've had a couple of minor warranty issues and they've both been resolved. You've been around long enough to know the faucets in the kitchen and bath aren't exactly top of the line. Also, our PUR faucet water filter would not fit on our new one, plus it had a nice drip, drip, drip feature that had to go. DH adjusted it a couple of times and the drip thingy just returned. We could have turned it in under warranty, but he figured he'd just get the same top of the line faucet and we'd really have to upgrade at some point. We've already made that change and found a Peerless that looks exactly like the OEM, so I'm happy...and it has a sprayer. Bathroom is fine. Did I mention that you're gonna LOVE that shower??? Going to replace the OEM shower head with the Oxygenics like in the ROO in the spring.

We miss the openness of the HTT, but both your new TT and ours have so many windows that it's not like being in a box. Foxy is not thrilled because she always hopped up on the front bunk to see everything going on and now there no bunk. What the??? I've caught her a couple of times in the swivel rocker checking things out the rear window and she looks a bit sheepish and gets down. Sorry, Fox.

I do think that unless we have an early and extreme winter, we may be able to get an extra trip or two with Rocky over our winterizing date with the ROO.

So, enjoy!, congrats and make lots of happy memories.

Where are you going?.... Surely you may have some great info for HYBRID folks asking questions.

That is the beauty of a hybrid RV .... It straddles the boundary with travel trailers, so like you I monitor both the HTT and the Travel Trailer forums, and I typically respond to hybrid specific issues on the HTT forum. I have even monitored the Tow Vehicles forum.

Now that I will have a Flagstaff I now have to add the Forest River Flagstaff forum to my list of forums to monitor, but these Trailer Life forums are (IMO) unique in that they are not brand-specific and as a result the community is larger and the traffic is typically better, although the signal : noise ratio is typically lower here than on the brand-specific fora.
  • We always read the Active topics on RV.Net. That way we can put our $.02 in all of the RN.Net forums. Find good info in all from the Class A folks to tenters. Even love Marcus!

Where are you going?.... Surely you may have some great info for HYBRID folks asking questions.

When I first get up in the morning with my fresh brewed cup of bean coffee I go down the JAYCO Forum list and see where I might have some good info for someone. Then I go replace my empty coffee cup with my second cup of fresh brewed bean coffee and start down the RV NET forum list... Every forum you get on it is always the same problems anyway... I think I am on my third cup of coffee this morning...

I have a few other forum that catches my eye as well. When retired and not on the camping road you have to do something to keep you energized...
