Tire Pressure Monitoring

we had two ruined tires on our 7000 km trip this summer on the rough roads of the Canadian east coast

so we're looking for a tire pressure system

ideally it would use the tire monitoring system of our dodge Dakota which uses special inflation valves to send a signal of some kind to the dash of the truck when a tire is low(it works great)

so im wondering if those same valves on the trailer would do the same thing

  • Tire-pressure sensors for normal cars are mostly made for lower pressure, so they get inacurate above a sertain pressure ( mostly 4 bar /60 psi. For that reason its also not a good idea, or your dodge is already working with high pressures.

If your damage was done by to low pressure, so sidewall damage or treath coming loose, and no nail or stone piercing the treath or sidewall, its better to review the pressure-advice .

You can do that with my made motorhome-tire-pressure-calculator.
Can be found in this map on my skydrive that belongs to my hotmail adres with same username as here.
    Motorhome-tire-pressure-calculator
First download by RIGHTCLICKINGand then choose Download.
Not leftclick and dont choose open in Excell or Web app, to complicated or goes wrong.
After download and eventual virus-check , open in Excell or Open Office CALC on your computer to use it.
If you cant work it out , give me the details of trailer and tires, and I will do it for you.
  • Ahhhhhh come on now,,realistic. Do you really believe that Dodge has built into their truck's computer, then into their display, a plug in addition for some kind'a towing behind trailer ???

On a trip getting ready to come home this fall, ours after marlket TPMS went out. Called the manufacture they will sent a new on to our home saying it will be there when you get home. You would not believe, how use to one that you can get, until the one that you have is no longer there.
  • "ideally it would use the tire monitoring system of our dodge Dakota which uses special inflation valves to send a signal"...Are you referring to a Chrysler/Dodge factory TPMS or and after-market one, if so, which one?
  • I seriously doubt it, as that would need to be programmed into the system which is something the mfgs probably didnt allow for. Also consider they only notify you of low pressure not temperature or the rate of deflation. Just buy a tpms that suits you and enjoy. I wouldn't be without mine. JMO
