Tires again

OK so here we go again. I have 5 years on my trailer tires. I know many have said replace the tires at this point. There is no cracking on the side tire walls. We travel small distances, maybe two hours a day for a maximum of 25 days a year. Would you try to get another year or two out of the tires? Thanks

Call Good Sam about their "tire replacement" plan which is just a low cost add on to either the Emer. Road Side Service or their extended warranty.
  • There are different opinions. Some say 5 yrs. Some say 7 yrs. No more miles than you put on them and the tires look good I would go another 2 yrs checking them regularly.
  • The mileage you do and close to where you camp and provided you have stayed within tire recommendation of speed and air air pressure I'd do another season.
But I'd do a visual inspection prior to venturing out.
  • The tires are Goodyear Marathon ST tires. The trailer never sits for long and goes into covered, heated storage for 5 months in the winter.
    Thanks everyone. Mark
  • Take the trailer to a reputable tire shop and ask them for a visual inspection.
They are able to see wear better than anyone here .
  • As we do not know how you maintain the tires your question cannot be answered.
Some questions you need to ask yourself.
I cover my tires from sunlight when the rig is stationary for long periods.
I use the rig frequently so as to keep the active chemicals distributed in the tire.
I check my air pressure regularly while on the road and before moving the trailer before a trip.

I do not pinch the tires on curbs etc.

Answer false to any 2 questions and I would change the tires. As a blowout can cause thousands of dollars of damage it is cheap insurance.
  • Much depend on specifics such as;
    tire type (ST/LT or P )..
were the tires covered while in storage
have the tires always had max pressure
    tire brand
how many curbs have they rolled over
were they used at speeds above 65 mph
do the tire have a good 10-15 percent reserve capacity
    etc
