Tires (narrow discussion)

OK, I'm thinking of getting new tires on my tandem axle TT. Weighs 7,800#. Currently has 2 year old Westlake ST 225/75R15 load range D's with about 20K miles on them. The Westlakes have been just fine and are actually in pretty good shape so I may still decide to keep them.

The only reason I'm looking is because I recently broke a leaf spring and probably towed the TT 100-200 miles with it broken. I'm a little concerned with all the abnormal stresses and overloads that might have placed on the tires.

I don't want LT's or 16" so we don't need to have those discussions again.
I am going to move up to load range E so we don't need to discuss that either.

I know Maxxi's get good recommendations but does anybody know of any other good choices for 225/75R15 LR "E" ST tires?
  • Provider is another good new gen M speed rated ST tire. Their OEM on a couple of commercial equipment trailer manufacturers
I frequent several type of trailering websites. Seems like each one has a favorite ST tire brand over other brands.

I would stick with one of the new gen speed rated ST tires. One thing I noticed they lost that rounded sidewall profile vs the older rounded sidewall that was common.

If you have had good luck with OEM brand then stick with it.
  • Gladiator makes a ST225/75R15(E). They seem to get good reviews.
  • I had good luck with a set of Maxxis but I will probably buy the new Carlisle HD next time.
    I run E rated 225 75 15 also.
