Toilet treatment and sewer hose

Being new to travel trailers, I need to figure out what toilet treatment to use and what sewer dump hose to get. The campground we are staying at for our first trip has a a greywater drain at each site, but a dumpstation for the black water. I'm looking at either this sewer kit: Camco 39551 Or, Camco Revolution. Anyone with experience with either one? Also, is there anything special I need for the greywater drain? Looking at the Camco TST Ultra Concentrate RV Toilet Treatment - Is that any good, or should I get something different? Finally, since I don't have a built in flushing system, I'm looking at the RhinoBlaster for flushing out the tank. Does this all sound good, or are there other things I should be looking at? Don't need anything fancy as we will only be using this maybe 5 times a year. Thanks in advance for your help!
  • No special chemicals or gadgets needed. When tanks are reasonably full dump and go. OP mentions a gray water only drain at the sites - must be something local as I have been all over the country and never run into that.
  • Many campers do not have flushing systems . Many campers have flushing systems and have never felt the need to take extra steps to keep them surgically clean .
Do not loose sight of what the tanks are for . Just keep a couple inches of water in them and thats enuff for many of us .I have lived full time in travel trailers and have never had a problem !
  • Re back flushing:
I found that they do help if you allow enough water to get back into the tank so that it has the same impact as dumping when you have a full tank. The effectiveness may be more or less depending on the design of the black tank and the drain lines. And, it's not a method for cleaning debris stuck on the side walls of the tank. But, if you backflush, it will help clean out any debris left behind after the first flush.
  • I haven't seen Camper's Friend in stores, but I don't really look for it as I just order it from Amazon. The bigger the container, the cheaper it is per use, so I just order one of the larger sizes and only have to buy it once or twice a year depending on how many extended trips we take.

    Happy Camper works for us!

Happy Camper works well and no harsh chemicals. I've had pretty good results with Camco Rhino hoses but there are quite a hose systems that should work quite well. Just make sure you have 25' or more of hose if you plan to travel around.

I've used something just like the Rhino Blaster, but made by Valtera. The Rhino Blaster should be fine and I would suggest getting it with the gate valve.
Do you have to buy it on line, or is it available in stores?
  • Camco orange pouches from Wally World work very well. RINO sewer hose is also very good.

X2 on the Happy camper and Rhino hose. My Rino Hose is 5+ years old and is as strong as the day I bought it. I've never used a Blaster in my black tank. Filled the tank before leaving the campsite and heading to the dump station and then dumped. Once it was empty, pulled out of the way and filled it again to 1/4 full for the trip home. Sloshing around on the ride home and having water in the tank when it sits waiting on the next tank has always kept mine clean. How do I know? Never had a clog, a smell problem or a tank sensor issue.

Tank Flushers other than a built in one's or a wand you stick down the toilet are in my opinion a "See the clean water coming out thru my clear elbow" Magic trick that proves nothing about if your tank is clean, only a few feet of your hose. Just my opinion but not without some test results to back it up.
