It was also a Host issue in that I was dealing extensively with Randall at Host to make the deal, and in particular in time to have one of the Host's that Tom's had on order into a special order unit for myself to be received by mid may. Supposedly, missing that one pushes the delivery out to August.
Do I have a problem with Host. Yes of course, they are just a bit further outside the line on misrepresentation of their product than other manufacturers. When I inquired about getting the Everest without the 2 "optional" slides, the response was "You can't get the units without the kitchen slides (it is a forced option)". Well, there is no such thing a forced option as that is just not an option, so don't call it one. Not that I wanted it without the slide....just calling them on their BS.
As consumers, who I understand are not really fooled by the tactics, why do so many of you run to the defense of Host????? Are their methods shocking.....no of course not. Are they just a bit more sketchy than other manufacturers......yes of course. Do they make a good product......it appears so......still doesn't excuse the methods. You can say Host sucks for doing this and that without disparaging yourself or your choice of RV. Chevy, Ford and Chrysler all suck for various reasons, but I still enjoy many of their vehicles.
All that said, if I only bought things made by VERY honest and straightforward people, I'd never buy much I'm afraid, so I got over it and decided that the floor plan and such was the only set up that justified going with a new unit.
I had thought that Allen, and Tom's were being very helpful and straight forward until Allen actually pressured me to put down a deposit just to get me more info about some dimensions in the camper I needed. No worries, went right to Host for the answers instead, and in that Randall was very helpful. But he too tried to pressure me into making the deal.
But again, I had made the decision to purchase anyway and that's when I requested Allen write it up for review and a deposit. As it was relayed to me, they could only roll the existing order over to my special order unit by that week, maybe true, maybe pressure but I had already gotten to the point of purchase, so no big deal to me. And since they claimed that the order had to placed right then to get May delivery, I didn't bother to contact Allen when he disappeared as what would the point be since August delivery wasn't acceptable to me.
