- carringbExplorerMy gas motor pulls 15,000 pounds (sometimes more) just fine! Mine make more torque than the 6.2L, probably around the same HP with the upgrades, but the new transmission is a huge upgrade over my 4R100.
- Dave_H_MExplorer III drag the 11.5K (loaded weight) thru the smokies. 4 trips now.
I do have the 4.30's but after running for two years, I would not be afraid to go with the 3.73's and run one gear lower. - wandering1ExplorerThe first thing you need to do is pick a trailer so you know how much it weighs then get the truck towing specs and read them to see if your truck is rated to tow that much weight. Forget personal opinions and get the facts, you are legally responsible for having an adequate tow vehicle.
- LantleyNomadThe gasser may do it but 11500 dry is solidly in diesel territory.
I don't believe your tow will be very relaxing - dodge_guyExplorer III personally would rather have the slightly lower fuel mileage with the gasser as compared to the issues the new diesels have. including the terrible fuel mileage. if you have the 4.30`s I`de say you`ll be OK. it will be slower than when it`s unloaded. but any vehicle is. you will see 4k+ RPM on some hills, but that is OK!
- APTExplorerIf you already have the truck, then you should provide more information. Which axle and how much payload on the Tire and loading sticker?
My guess is that 2500 pound dry pin weight will be over the truck's payload, maybe rear axle when loaded with a receiver and people in the cab.
If you do not yet have the truck, consider a single rear wheel 1-ton diesel. - Denny___JamiExplorer

thinking of buying a solitude 320x 5th wheel, only have a ford f250 gas, 2015 pu, willthis do the job?
I little short of information on your truck but if you bought it off a lot or buying it off a lot it will surely have 3.73 gears. Using the 2015 Ford towing guide the truck is rated to pull 12300 to 15900 depending on how the truck is setup, regular cab 4.30 being the highest.
Our truck with 4.30 gears 2x4 Super Cab 6.2 is rated to pull 15600 and that's what I pull with it, and yes that excludes the Rocky Mountains. As far as merging onto interstates it doesn't have a problem with the load getting up to speed, will it run high rpm "yes" but it's not a diesel it's a gas motor and that's what they do when full power is needed. When cruising down the road the rpm is 2K at 65 mph and you can't hear it running.
Denny - wintersunExplorer IIYou are ignoring the time to get from 0 MPH to 55 MPH to have a prayer of merging with traffic. In many areas it is 200 feet or less from the cloverleaf on ramp to being on the highway with semi's and if your truck and trailer are only doing 35 MPH when you have to merge you will be in trouble and sooner or later it could become deadly.
There is a reason that Ram, Ford, and GM tow rates its gas powered pickups 12,800 lbs. or less with 3.73 gears. Even then they have not been conforming to the SAE J2807 testing procedure where trucks have to perform with their rated tow loads.
The 1998 Chevy Tahoe I owned was rated to tow over 7,000 lbs. but in reality with a 3200 lbs. boat and trailer load and 4.10 gears it was less than optimum in terms of the distance required to get up to 55 MPH to merge with freeway traffic and the distance required to come to a stop if there was any problem with the trailer's brakes (which was not at all unusual with a trailer that would get immersed into salt water). - slarsenExplorerI pulled a 10K lb dry, estimated 11K 5th wheel from Indiana to San Francisco a year ago, through Denver, New Mexico, Colorado again, Utah twice, etc. It pulled fine. Ever go up/down a 9-degree mountain? I did. I was more nervous coming down than going up, without question. You won't go up a hill like that and hold 65, but 50? Probably.
But you're significantly heavier. I'd say it depends upon where you plan to go. Most people don't go that far or that often with their trailers. Me, I've gone over 30K miles in 5 years. I'm on the 3rd set of tires. If you are just going into a neighboring state, or over the the lake, etc I'd say you'll be fine. If you're touring the country, I'm not so sure. - SlownsyExplorer2015 I think 6.2L
