Will it tow it SAFELY? NO
You need more truck or less trailer... - Buck50HDExplorerFinally did a couple 0-60 runs with our rig and it was 18 seconds. That was counting from the time the tach hit 1500RPM. From just starting to roll it was probably closer to 17. Towing 9000lb.
At low elevation, it's been proven that the gas trucks perform just as well as diesels, 0-60 or maintaining highway speeds. They just sound like they're working for it.
IB's recent comparison of the 6.4 hemi and Cummins demonstrates this very well. It did take a little more HP in gas form to match the diesel but if you wear ear plugs and put your foot in it, there's very little difference. - 8ironExplorer

Sure the 6.7 does it at lower RPM, but not a whole lot quicker, that was my point.
Exception being those who think full throttle is verboten.
And as a person who has owned both. I can say the extra 15 hp and 400 tq make my 6.7 considerably quicker getting up to speed. Especially when towing. - HybridhunterExplorer

I personally would rather have the slightly lower fuel mileage with the gasser as compared to the issues the new diesels have. including the terrible fuel mileage. if you have the 4.30`s I`de say you`ll be OK. it will be slower than when it`s unloaded. but any vehicle is. you will see 4k+ RPM on some hills, but that is OK!
Agreed! I'm a bit baffled by all the talk about the gas truck being slower. It might rev more, and make a bit more noise (or music, depending on your bias). But foot down, on occasions when required, it should compare well.
Unfortunately no, it doesn't compare at all. My 6.2 did the job I asked it, when I asked it but only after much gear changing and huffing and puffing. The 6.7 I now have does it so much easier and sooner. The 6.2 is a great motor (and sounds awesome) but apples to apples comparisons don't do it justice. - fireman41Explorer

You are ignoring the time to get from 0 MPH to 55 MPH to have a prayer of merging with traffic. In many areas it is 200 feet or less from the cloverleaf on ramp to being on the highway with semi's and if your truck and trailer are only doing 35 MPH when you have to merge you will be in trouble and sooner or later it could become deadly.
WOW ! I wonder how all the 18 wheelers merge :S
With my loaded truck at 78000 to 79000 lbs on flat ground it will take me at least a half mile to get up to 65 mph. If I'm pulling a hill well getting on th e interstate I may not even get to 65 mph till I start down the other side.
And my truck has a 450 hp DD13 with a 10 od speed and 3.58 rears.
I have driven trucks with 10 speed were the top gear was 1:1 and they had 2.94 rears. - HybridhunterExplorer
