Towing with my new 2017 F250 CC gasser

Had my first trip pulling with my new F250 STX CC 6.2L 2wd gasser last week. Replaced my 2010 F250 XLT CC 5.4L 2wd. in Feb, the new truck is a pleasure to tow with. Pulled my 2015 KZ Sportsman 314BH TT, empty weight about 6500 and grosses at 8000. Pulled a split of flat land and gently rolling hills. Averaged about 8.2 mpg towing. Truck seemed happiest at 62 mph on the cruise control in tow/haul. On the flats trans would shift into OD and on the steeper hills would drop down to 3rd. The more HP,TQ, payload, and tow rating make towing a more enjoyable experience. Old truck was rated for 9700 towing, new is rated 12900. Had to shop around a bit to find a 2wd gasser that wasn't white. Mine is Shadow Black. So if anyone likes gassers like I do, the new Ford is great truck.

    Thanks for the replies. I have read on this and other sites about "locking out 6th gear." Had time to experiment with this during my trip. On descending hills trans would go into OD and would have to downshift to 3rd to maintain speed on the next hill. So I locked out 6th to eliminate the number downshifts as well as have a higher RPM starting the next climb. These were hills from Livingston, TX to Tyler, TX. Wanting to take a trip sometime to Big Bend and see how the truck performs on steeper climbs.

    Congrats on your new truck.

    I'm on my second season towing with my 6.0L gasser and no complaints. Towed out west to Yellowstone last year and had no issues towing in the mountains, just let the motor do its thing and rev.

    As the previous poster said, all 3 gassers are solid and highly capable trucks.

    First thing i can think of is, "you re gonna get stuck on wet grass." :B

    I been towing 10K fifth wheel with an F 250 2WD since I went to gas in 2012. Have never regretted my decision.

    however it seems that the other two gassers are keepers also.

    Very nice, congrats on your truck. My work truck has the 6.2, good engine and sounds great when I have to get on it a bit.

    Thanks for the review. I have a TT with just about the same weights as yours, and just got got a 6.2 recently. Have yet to tow with it, but now I have a pretty good idea what to expect.
