Hope this isn't old news, but news to me. Just read that Tundra will come out with a Cummins in 2016. Optional I assume.

Actually, it makes perfect sense. The vast majority of 1500 series trucks are not used to haul heavy loads. They are a glorified sedan, mainly used for commuting and Home Depot runs occasionally on the weekends. MPG is what this is about - both for marketing as well as CAFE purposes.
As far as RAM goes, the 3.0 VM engine has been receiving great reviews in regards to MPG. That said, if the Cummins has similar numbers and is cost equivalent, I would say that RAM made a mistake not going with that engine.
