Travel trailer GVWR more that combine GAWR

When hitched to truck.....tongue weight plus weight on axles = total weight

When NOT hitched to truck....STILL have tongue weight (jack) plus weight on axles =total weight

At no time is trailers total weight ONLY on axles.

According to your explanations, the "weight on axles" you mean the weight according to the the specification of the trailer (GVWR; GAWR), or after the weigh station? Thank you.

What he was saying is the weight on the axles and tires won't change between the tongue sitting on the truck or sitting on the ground.

Actually there will be slightly less weight on the axles when parked than there is when towing with a weight distributing hitch.

In any case, the GAWR is what you should not exceed when putting the axles on the scale.

I just can't help myself.... what is the cargo capacity of the truck with the towing package? FYI: Tow rating means little with a TT.

Tongue weight is tongue weight, regardless of whether it is supported by hitch on tow vehicle or tongue jack or whatever. The weight on the axles does not change depending on whether it is hooked to truck or not.

Yada, yada, yada. We have all made that argument, but fact is, there are other factors, not just the towing capacity you have to consider. You have to take into account payload on tow vehicle along with sail area (how much frontal area that big box has), hitch capacity, and so on...

Nice trailer and truck, I would love to have a big trailer like that, but we like state and national parks and the long rigs often don't fit..

The heck with that....

Load it up (truck/trailer) camp ready..everybody and ALL the stuff then hit the CAT Scales for a REAL WORLD eye opening information about weights.

Stickers, data plates, mfg. specs......hooey!
Real World ......ACTUAL weighing
Once across scale without WDH connected
Once across scales WITH WDH
Once across scales truck only

Now have ALL the info needed to:
1) Set up WDH
2) Get real tongue weight
3) Get real weight on axles
4) Get real weight on truck....and how close/over it is

WEIGH IT...then post the REAL Weight numbers


PS:
Post pictures of actual weigh tickets (all 3 of them) and I will send you the reimbursement of costs for weighing!

Truck GVWR ---------------8,200#
Truck/trailer GCVWR ---- 17,100#
MAX Tow (published) -----11,300#

Published.....150# driver and 20# cargo
MAX Payload.....F150 3.5L Eco 4x4 ---REG CAB/2398# (1539# or less for other cabs)
MAX Tongue weight (With WDH) 1,130# (only 10% of MAX Tow weight??)

GCVWR minus MAX Tow====max weight of truck
17,100 - 11,300 = 5800# (bet truck weighs MORE then that so tow weigh goes DOWN)

So if truck is closer to GVWR 8200# then trailer weight can only be 8900# for GCVWR

Two weights one should NOT exceed....
GAWR and GCVWR

So load up camp ready and post.....otherwise you are OVER WEIGHT truck and truck/trailer combo. Simple addition/subtraction
