trip to denver

thanx for the advice guys. the DW has a grandmother in hospice care down there. we may have to go down. we have places to stay down there on family land. havent taken the truck and camper but a couple of hours away before. way too much beautiful country here to play in to spend all the time driving.

The Lakewood city campground at Bear Creek Lake Park on the west side is another good option if you need a place to stay in Denver.

Another place to camp close to Denver is the Jefferson Co. fairgrounds. Not as nice as Chatsfield, but close in and convenient.

Being from Wyoming, I'd say the suggestion to avoid I-80 is a good one. Wind and winter blizzards can and do occur right through till early June. If the weather is clear though, go for it. Towns every 90 miles give or take right along the UP railroad and no major changes in grade. Just nice, gentle, sometimes boring open country with antelope and the occasional bear around Elk Mountain (saw one in mid-afternoon just strolling along a fence line north of the interstate).

It's a truck camper, not a trailer.

Eastern Wyoming is very desolate. There's a stretch of 75 miles with no services from Casper north. Watch gas gauge.

x2 on this advise. We did a loop through Denver last summer coming in from the west and leaving through the north. The I90 to I25 route is easiest. I always suggest driving by all your gauges EXCEPT the speedometer - The other gauges will tell you whether you can drive faster or slower.

If you can get into Cherry Creek State Park- do it. It's right in town, spotlessly clean and amazingly quiet. It may or may not be open yet.
