After the most research I've like ever done on anything I concluded that the best camper for our 6.5' bed 2008 ext cab GMC Sierra 1500 was going to have to be old. New campers are just too bloody heavy and we did not want a pop top. As luck would have it I found a 1986 8' Six-Pac camper that is working out incredibly well so far. Placard listed dry weight of 1,335lbs. Loaded up is obviously a LOT heavier, but we added Timbrens and an extra leaf spring, but even just Timbrens felt fine on over 1,500 miles of Montana camping recently. I guess what I'm saying is that if you can find an old, cherry condition light weight camper you'll have a lot better luck than all this newer grossly overweight stuff. .02
