truck camper tie down

Yeah they'll secure the camper fine. No they won't have any appreciable give to them like dedicated camper tie downs with a spring cushioned attachment. That said I'd be more worried about what you're going to attach them to on the truck if you don't have camper mounts on the truck. Don't be that guy with straps cranked down around the bed sides, unless the truck is a beater. You'll likely do body/paint damage.

I tie down scarier loads than a camper with 2" nylon straps. On a camper, I'd be conscientious of any major twisting of the truck frame though like in and out of driveways etc with a hard attachment. Hard to quantify how much twist is seen by the camper mounts and the pressure on them.

I always carry a few sets in the truck for an emergency and yes, they are legal everywhere.

Should work fine. I've used ratchet straps as a tie downs for a couple years. I had an 8' pop-up on a utility body. Because of the body no factory made tie-down system would work.
Legal? Sure. A TC is cargo. Ratchet straps secure cargo just fine. They're "legal" to strap down anything else in the bed of a truck as far as I know.

It's probably legal, but I think you'd be better off with spring loaded tie downs. If you tighten the straps too tightly, you can damage the frame. Some manufacturers recommend frame mounted tie downs. I think there must be a reason for it.

I have used them more than once to bring a truck camper home but never permanently.Infact,I just recently took four 6,000 lb ratchet straps with me to Montana to pick up a truck camper if I could not find the right setup there.Luckily the guy had the exact same happi jack setup as I do and it saved me some money.

I often wonder why they don't make strap type tie downs as they have some give to them unlike straight turnbuckles.I suppose the weathering of them could be an issue.
