truck campers require registration like a trailer camper?

Bud, based on the nature of your questions, gutting and re building a RV is an effort in futility. It’s not really economically feasible in most any situation,in general either.
I’m surmising you don’t live where TCs are popular?
Don’t trip over dollars to save dimes. If you’re intent on a TC and on a low budget, get your truck situation handled then find the “right” TC where they are more popular and plentiful.
A lot of parts of the country, finding a used tc is like buying a snow blower in Phoenix...
But the mountain west states have a lot of TCs. Particularly the northwest.

You can’t toss a TC in a rental truck. Unless you’re going full redneck engineered and ruining the truck bed by running straps over the roof of the camper down to the truck frame.
If you’re getting a TC, get a truck, set it up for hauling a camper and then gets camper.
Your plan above has some holes in it that make it a non starter.

when did the industry switch away from wood? is aluminium material of choice now. current prospect w/mold is 2014 Travel lite. I could remove complete interia and refurb from bare metal & fiberglass cabover section.

I really like the way lower rear isn't stretched & lowered. which is the main reason for the TC not to be extended in back to interfere w/ launch retrieval of vessel. I'm hopping the tow vehicle being short in the back is more desirable.
after loading a 1900LB TC what's the tow capacity of minium F250?

my current TV is a SUV so I actually don't have a way to transport the TC.
I could fly to pick up TC rent a one way uhaul pickup.
or drive my SVU one way rental of a flatbed trailer again from uhaul.
curious what the mileage would add up to w/ the$29.per day rental PU?

for 950 miles miles .I like the SUV but will most likely get rid of in favor of a real capabil tow vehicle w/ small house.

If you want to save money go older and good shape vs newer and messed up, imo.

The insulation alone would be a nightmare to replace and if you looks at the construction depending on the year, it might have wood walls then those would harbor the mold also.

Then there's the duct work and wiring, I'd pass...
