My 2 cents worth--depending on what you are going to use truck for when not camping and SIZE of camper you are looking at. 1500 truck-yes there are very few campers out there that are compatible to 1500, so be sure to look at campers to see if this is type of camper you want. 2500-truck-now you have a lot of choices--3500 truck unlimited no. of campers. money comes into play, bigger truck more the cost same for camper. There are a lot of people on this site which have 1500 trucks and campers on them and it works for them. Personally I rather had a truck which rated for bigger camper than I have which will give you more ability to haul extra things. Beach you will need 4 wd.
so my recommendation is look at campers first to see what you would be satisfied with then match truck to it. I have 2500 with northstar 850sc and the match is prefect. the truck is really more than I need when camper is not on it, but the camper can fit on 1500 which personally I wouldn't feel comfortable with that set up. So back to same suggestion as before look at campers and find one you want then match truck to it and remember have fun regardless of what you decide.
