Reality Check and adamis-
While I did say that we "take her with us everywhere it's ok to take a cat" I probably should have made clear that there are many stores that are pet-friendly besides just Petco, Petsmart, etc. Many, though not all, Lowes and Home Depot's are. Tractor Supply, Nordstrom, Pottery Barn, Apple Store, Bass Pro, and many others. Their policies always include stipulations about the pets being leashed and "well behaved"' which Kahlua and Selina are. Though you can't see it in the picture, Selina is wearing a "figure-eight" harness, and is tethered to her carrier bag. I look for and obey store signage. The store's permission is all I can be reasonably expected to seek.

Good on you for following the rules. I think the point adamis and I were trying to make is that it is a bit selfish and, seriously, for what reason? Not really a fair comparison between a pet store and others. I suspect most do not have issue with seeing animals being in a pet store.. But while shopping for ??? I see them at Starbucks, the grocery store, yes, Home Depots, etc etc. Are we that lonely or insecure that we can't be without our pet for half and hour?
Personally, just because something is allowed, doesn't always make it a good idea.
Camping/traveling with them... two thumbs up for sure. I think leashes on cats is ok too, and agree, they are trainable if people would put the effort in.
Happy camping..
