Truck died at dump station

Hopefully there is a quick solution or I am stranded at a campground dump station. I have a 2004, 3500 Chevy qually duramax that showed no signs of problems but will now, not start back up. I started up fine to leave the campsite and pulled up to the dump station to empty my tanks. I turned the truck off to empty but when wanting to turn it back on to leave it just cranks and does a "slit second" attempt to turn over then shuts down. There were no engine warning lights or any acting up to give me a concern a prodlem was emmenent. Thanks

  • I will be scanning for the "someone was hogging the dump station on a holiday weekend" thread.

I hope you get it worked out soon, nothing worse than equipment problems when you are on vacation.

Not sure what you mean by I have power in the truck. You might see a light or something similar, but the door relays take more power to operate. Sounding more and more like a battery problem.
  • Cranking for just a "split second" is a sign of a battery or starter issue, not fuel or fuel pump.

    1. Remove, clean and retighten the battery cables.
    2. After making sure the battery cables are clean and tight, get someone to give you a jump start. Once you hook up, wait at least 2 minutes before trying to start it. Do not shut it off until you get somewhere where you can change your batteries
    3. If it still won't start, it might be the starter relay. Have someone turn the key while you tap on the starter with any available tool. If it starts, do not shut it off until you get to a place where you can get the starter replaced.
    4. If the previous three steps haven't worked, time to call for a tow truck.
  • It happened to us once with our other avalanche 2003.
    It was the battery.
I laughed, sorry! when I read your post. I thought nothing like being dumped at the dump station, LOL

Seriously....I hope you get things sorted and get on the road again soon.

  • My first step would be to check for water in the filter. Should be something in your manual on how to drain it. Fairly easy to do.
  • Clean and retighten the battery terminals even if they don't look corroded or loose, and try again.
