Uncomfortable toilet seat

Sitting on the toilet of our "new" 2002 TC is uncomfortable. Have you experienced that problem? Did you replace the seat or the whole toilet? Or did you find another fix? How did you know in advance that a new seat or toilet would solve the problem? I'd hate to spend a bunch of money and find the replacement is no more comfortable than the original.

The base of the Dometic 310 is still plastic. The bowl is porcelain and the seat is standard-sized. I was skeptical it would fit in my bathroom but it did:

Having never looked Im not even sure if a standard off the shelf seat would fit? It is a little small. Uncormfortable but functions (beats looking for tree or public facilities.

That and how the lid closes to keep seat dry. At least in our wet bath-a standard (house) seat would also require wiping toilet down- eewwww, well not really, use separate towel or throw a bag over toilet when showering...just other thoughts that are conjured up when replacing seat? I already hear Margaret yelling at me...
  • Dometic Sealand porcelain toilet uses a seat very similar to a house hold toilet, vastly more comfortable than the standard thetford narrow ridge-style.
  • You've heard the saying..."Is it me, or are they making toilets seats smaller."

I don't know how to describe it other than to say the sensation is as though one is sitting on the top edge of the toilet and not on the seat. I guess the problem is that the seat area supporting one's posterior is too small.

We replaced the cheap & uncomfortable Thetford Bravura in our motor home with a nice Dometic model 320 and also an optional upgraded residential type seat that Dometic offers. Was WELL worth the expense in our opinion.

I did the same in my "vintage" Allegro. The China bowl feels a lot more solid, is residential height and has a swirl-type flush like at home (plus the 30-year-old original toilet was icky). Small, seemingly insignificant changes make the trip that much more enjoyable.

  • Our old camper has a wet bath that we had to replace the shower pan/Blackwater holding tank combo because of cracks. Stool had broken lid so we did a new stool at the same time. We have knee and back issues and with the close quarters standing after doing the paperwork was very difficult so we purchased a high profile stool as a replacement. Much better. We also removed the door and installed curtain track and a heavy upholstery fabric curtain door making entry and exit much better. It also allows us to use the fantasic fan to ventilate the camper without having a solid door that had to be kept open to use. Works for us just fine. One thing tho. We have two under counter doors and the taller stool blocked one so I had to modify it a bit. Just saw it shorter, add a hinge and make the bottom couple of inches solid. Store towels back there.

Our last tt had an 'uncomfortable' toilet. We put a 3" riser under it and then it was comfortable (the height was too low).
  • To be fair, I wouldn't consider sitting in a wet bath in a TC to be exactly comfortable or relaxing, no matter what kind of seat you have. But I hear you. My motto is get in, do paperwork, get out, ASAP. Kinda like the DMV.
