OP again. Went to the dealer to see what the latest update is. FCA decided an entire new head with valves, springs, etc. is warranted in this case. A new head is on the way. I saw for myself the nicks in two exhaust valves. (1 and 7) The tech said it looked like it may have been dropped on something during assembly. I guess this also bent the valves slightly. FCA wants this head back to see if they can find the source of the damage and attempt to keep it from happening again.
With the head off the engine all valves should be closed, fully retracted. Hard to hit and bend the valve like that. T&P's theory makes a whole lot more sense. If it hit the piston hard enough to bend the valves, it left marks on the piston.
