I think he made that decision before he purchased the truck and I don't think buying a diesel over a gas is any guarantee that you will have zero problems.

Some posters want to turn every thread into gas vs diesel. So annoying.
They said they wanted to check the lobes for possible flat spots. Since I’m not a mechanic (and don’t play one on tv, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night!!!) I dont know what that entails. I assume they have to take it out to put a micrometer on it.
I guess you did not understand what I was trying to tell you. A 3500 gas truck will be worthless in 5 years if you try to sell it. No one wants a gasser. Same issue I had trying to sell my 2WD. Everybody has been convinced that 4x4 is the only way to go, even when the 4x2 gets better fuel economy and tows more. Oh well, hope you enjoy your truck once its back home.
