HDs they are not. But I don’t know my 6 1/2 foot bed quad cab fit a 2,208 pound regular size pallot of tile just fine. Fork lift operator wasn’t stupid enough to set it on the tailgate. I put my 200 pounds of tools & supplies boxes on the back cab floor and she took it up on the interstate and 30 miles home just fine. Naturally tires & air bags were properly inflated for the task.
Seems to me the 375,000 I have on my 1500 ED hadn’t shown it to be incapable of transporting TTs sometimes with a MC in the bed. I could not and did not buy it to tow ginormous 5ers or double decker car haulers but I don’t think that makes it a toy. Only the right size tool for the job.
Close friend name Marty has a stock original 108k 99 Chev 3500 7400 4L80e 4.10s. Nice truck I like it a lot and have used it for two long heavier tows. He can definately carry more in the bed. Towing the same 7.5k TT the lil 8 speed 3.92 diesel would walk him from a light to about 55. But at 65 plus his 290 HP leaves my 268 HP as the gearing advantage has played out. Otherwise their is the difference of 8.5 to 9 mpg towing that load vs 14.5 to 15. Call it a toy if you want I’ll keep my truck as the fuel cost comes out of my profits.
