Upgrade Kitchen Faucet

I have a 2004 travel trailer and really like the looks of the new arched faucets in new trailers. Can I just buy a faucet from Home Depot or Lowes ? Or is it a special faucet for trailers. If I can do the kitchen sink, I'd like to upgrade the bathroom faucet also.
  • We just upgraded the other day...from Lowes or Home Depot (don't know where he got it)..... We got a MOEN. Experienced a bad faucet in the past. Discovered some are made with copper tubing....that will rub against metal casing. Copper rubbing on metal -- or even coming in contact with metal will cause holes..... The faucet that failed was from a plumbing store........failed in 6 months. The new faucet is still working in our old rig...after 2 1/2 yrs.

BEWARE....if your sink is under the cabinet....they'll say the height but the height on ours does NOT include the metal piece the faucet sits on......We would have had 1/2" clearance...now we don't. DH is moving the light fixture so we can put the cap back on the light......

So, you replaced one Chinese faucet with another Chinese faucet. All Home Depot and Lowe's Delta, Moen, Price Pfister and American Standard faucets are made in China. If you're lucky, you may get one model that was made in Mexico. The faucets you see on these home center displays are made for the home centers with the cheapest materials possible. They're not the same thing you would buy at a plumbing supply house.

  • I did ours two years ago.
Got a nice Delta with a high goose neck spigot at Home Depot.
It was the easiest plumbing job I have ever done and took all of ten minutes.
All the connections are hand tight, per the directions.

My wife is very happy, and we all know if our wives are happy, then we are happy

That's exactly what I did. Mine lowered my load capacity due to being 4 oz. heavier.
This was an expensive mod for for you.
What brand dually will you be buying to tow it with now?:B

On a serious note....Rvs do not have water fixture shut offs like a house... What this means is that if any water fixture fails, that you have no running water at all in the unit. I never thought about this until I had a bathroom faucet crack. I had to make an emergency run into town to get a new one, so we could continue with our trip... Found out that a cheap 20.00 faucet from walmart fit perfectly and is wayyyyy better quality than than any RV faucet.

  • So we just upgraded the kitchen faucet last weekend. We had three holes, 8" apart - so that was standard. But we went we a Glacier Bay "one hole" from Home Depot.

The center hole was 3/4" so I had to drill it out to about 1 1/4" for the new faucet. Not hard, but I'm glad I had a 3/4" dowel to allow me to center the new hole saw. And, of course, I'm glad I had a larger hole saw.

The only other thing - someone else has mentioned. The old PVC pipes had 1/2" nuts on them and the new faucet was expecting 3/6" threads. A few minutes staring at the Brass Connectors in Home Depot solved that issue.

Other than that - we're glad we did it and wish we'd done it earlier.

Before you start, take a peek under the sink and make sure you've got clearance to work.
  • There are few things to consider but they are important. The space between the openings and the number of openings. The good news is these are not fractional and they are easily measured. Kitchen choices are usually two holes or 1 hole and most are kitchen spacing, I think it is 6". Bathroom faucets are usually 4" but also could be one or two holes, and most will have pop-up feature.
  • No no no..it must have RV on it.
Otherwise it will be of higher quality and then next thing you know you have to replace the bathroom sink faucet :B

YES....pick the faucet you like. You might have to use different connectors on hot/cold. (Might!)
  • Yes, any kitchen faucet will work.
One caveat though, if you get a pull out style faucet then you may have to adapt to a 3/8" pipe thread but that's easily done.
