wall delam under window 2006 Jayco

We bought a 2006 featherlight brand new. We have had no problems until recently when we had torrential rains and a tornado. I noticed a huge bulge under the window in the slide out. It starts under the small vent slit and goes from there. We called our insurance company and they said they would not cover a manufacturer defect. We contacted RVone who we purchased the unit from, and they sent out someone to look at the trailer. The estimate to fix it is $6800.00, which is approximately 1/2 of what the trailer is worth. They contacted Jayco and they are not going to cover it because the trailer is out of warranty. Are you kidding me-we bought the trailer as an investment. We are now retired and we were going to either sell it or trade up. Who will purchase it now. Can anyone help?

    Welcome to the forum. If it is directly under the window I would pull out the window and try to put resin into the bulge through the edge of the window opening. It should be delamed all the way up to the opening. Make sure you allow it to dry out before you attempt repair or it will note adhere. After you get the resin in the bulge take two boards and clamp it together and allow it to cure for a day before removing them. Get new butyl tape and reinstall window.

    someone on this board said it best - a travel trailers life is about 7-10 years.

    Sometimes really anal owners will caulk and recaulk every year and are super diligent about water intrusion. Those TTs can last longer.

    One thing to consider....

    Once you stop the leak (critically important) - delam is really only a cosmetic issue. The trailer will still function properly and everything you were planning to do with it you still can. You will now just be doing it with an unsightly bulge under your window.

    Now...resale is an entirely different situation as most RV owners know to avoid a trailer with any sign of delam...but in the meantime, either fix it and move on or just live with the damage and don't worry about it.

    Sorry to hear about this but consider RVs are not an investment - like a boat or snowmobile it's a depreciating recreational toy. Secondly, RVs require a lot of maintenance - I'd expect that a 2006 has been resealed multiple times as the manual requires bi-annual inspections of seals. Lastly, you are at least 6 years out of warranty, no manufacturer would cover this issue, especially where you stated there were abnormal weather conditions.

    Best of luck, you can either reseal the window and live with the delaminating wall or sell it and take a loss.

    What is the "small vent slit" under the window the OP is referring to? Is it the small drain weep hole cut into the window frame to facilitate condensation drainage from the interior surface of the window? As I have learned, (and saw firsthand in my own trailer)in a heavy or wind driven rain, those "drains" will indeed allow water into the interior of the frame. Enough water in the frame and it could certainly seep under the screws and find its way to the "guts" of the wall. I'm less concerned with condensation than rain intrusion, and plan to seal those "drains".

    I wouldn't call anything that depreciates on an annual basis an investment.

    2. Are you serious you "bought the trailer as an investment"?
    3. Water intrusion very seldom covered IMO
    4. Good that you found out where water leak started. That is sometimes most of the battle. Lots here on re-caulking windows and fixing de-lamination. And if that window is leaking time to check all of them.

    Please elaborate.
