Wall-mounting TV

Hi, all!

Brand new TT owner here...just barely one month off the dealer's lot! Here's my first question...

Our pre-owned trailer has no TV so we want to add one. How do we wall-mount it? Can we screw things into the walls. They seem so thin.

Thanks!
  • have the manuf send u a pic of inside of wall or at least where studs are, or just call
  • Finding the studs can be very important but if on an interior wall, you might also consider bolting through the wall with carriage head bolts. Then cover the bolt heads on the other side with matching seam tape. Also, any size TV will travel much better if it cannot bounce during transport. We use velcro straps to tightly secure the TV's to the wall during transport and remover the straps when setting up camp.
  • There might be some wood blocking usually a 1x3 in the wall near the the cable plug. You can try a stud finder.
  • Some time ago on Hybrid Explorer someone wanted to mount a TV on an outside wall. Huge mistake was that they didn't take the thickness of the wall into account and when all was said and done they had a long screw sticking out....not a good day. Agree that if you can get a diagram from the mfg that's best, but still triple check with stud-finder before you start working. We have never removed either the TV we had in the HTT - built into a custom entertainment center - or the one in our current TT, install by the manufacturer. We travel, it stays right where it is.
  • Before you try to mount anything, look at all your options. Monoprice sells very good quality and reasonably priced mounts of all types. Some clamp on, some bolt on, and there are many different types of mounts for all applications.

This is the bracket I used because our old HTT had a fold down TV shelf and had to be removed fro travel. Note it's listed under "Home theater". When I bought it was listed under "monitor clamps". So really poke around to see what they've got. Turned out it works great in our current HTT. I use a piece of velcro to hold the clamp arm away from the fridge door. This obviously might not work for you or be what you want. But I wanted to give you something to get you thinking creatively. Meanwhile make sure to get the info on the walls from the manufacturer as was suggested.

Several ways to do it, depending on how your trailer is constructed. On my old trailer, I was able to find a stud and used one of those swing-out mounts. Never trailers have "backer boards" behind the finished wall so optional TVs can be quickly installed. As a last resort, you can attach your own backer board externally, stain it, etc, and attach the TV to that.
  • Thank you, everyone who's responded...all good suggestions!

Campfire Time, I like the clamp idea and could work for us...I'll look into it.

We might just use the TV on its stand when we're parked at the site and pack it up wrapped in a towel stowed in the under-bed storage when we move.

    Thanks again!
