Exhaust and Sango. Let me talk to Jane about it. We were thinking of going to Kerrville this year, since we missed it last year.
Skipbee, we were looking forward to meeting you two years ago at the Mid-Atlantic, but I think you were caught up with family??? At any rate, we'd love to meet up at some point. As to the questions you raised: "how close were your calculations (cash)"?
Because of the internet, "everything has changed" as they say. But, its true. We did the majority of our transactions over the net before we left the US. It has several advantages. (1) If you see yourself busting the budget, you can scale back or cancel activities. In fact you can cancel the whole trip and replan. (2) You can compare and contrast the options over the net. (3) Your trip goes smoothly with the day to day plans that you've made. And finally (4) You find a way of still remaining spontaneous, as we did with a truck camper. Spontaneity is the key to see and enjoy things that you might have missed with your research.
Skipbee, I know that your background is in sailing/boating. I think you would especially enjoy northern Europe that is still very bound to the sea. Maarten can Soest, the designer and builder of the Tonke said that he was inspired by the Dutch watercraft. He sees the Tonke that we traveled in as a "land yacht". He also said that he was inspired by the Romany (Gypsy) wagons. Clearly he knows how to resolve two different ideas at the same time ;-)
He was very interested in my Avion camper. I told him the history of the Avion including the fact that the company was originally called the Romany Coach Co. How about that for synchronicity?
