We have used bait traps in the past and I do not know where the mice go but have never found any dead one's or had a smell from them. Black boxes you put poison in and leave them where you think they may be going and running about. Pets cannot access these and they are not going to hurt anything. Then when we are not around but have power we use a plug in device that omits a sound that squirrels, mice and other vermin do not like and have never had a problem(touch wood). Good Luck!!!
