I've often wondered if perhaps you could convince other mice of the danger to just stay away by mounting their little heads on a stick after you've trapped one...
Like that scene in Pirates Of The Carribean with the pirates hanging in cages as a warning to the other pirates...
(Did I mention I hate mice?)
The only problem I see with your method, and any method with bait, is that you're attracting them towards you instead of pushing them away. That being said, I guess if you trap them before they get in the trailer then it's an acceptable solution.
