My neighbor has a pest control license, and has said that these work until the rodents get desperate. Then they learn to tolerate that sound because they realize it doesn't actually hurt them.
But if there's an easier target and they're annoyed by the noise, they'll stay away, which would be true of most CGs. Especially if your neighbor didn't have them.
