I believe what you have quoted here is the ratings with certain tires and not the actual rear axle rating.
I know my 2006 Dodge 2500 rear axle is rated at 10,800 same as 2006 3500 1 ton. The upgraded 17 inch forged aluminum wheels and Nitto Durra grapplers 285/75r/17s rated at 3970 lbs. at 80 psi on my truck have hauled a couple of heavy campers especially the 1998 lance 990 legend 11' 3" model with dry bath that I just purchased 2 months ago for thousands of miles with my other upgrades. Also you can upgrade with 19.5 Vision wheels or Ricksons too which I am doing to beef up wheel rating.
