I believe what you have quoted here is the ratings with certain tires and not the actual rear axle rating.

The "rating" is for that particular truck
as configured by the factory.
The RAWR is for the truck, not for the part.
If the truck has dual rear wheels, its rear axle rating will be higher than if it had single rear wheels - its because the extra set of wheels/tires will support a greater load.
The Dana 80 axle is often used for a truck rear axle by the Big 3.
The axle itself is rated by it's manufacturer for 11,000 pounds.
The truck manufacturer, in current 2014 one ton trucks, with dual rear wheels rates the axle for approximately 9,650 pounds. But on the single rear wheel/tire, the same axle is derated to much less.
