- ShinerBockExplorerI ran mostly 87 in my personal Ecoboost truck that I put over 80k on. I didn't see much of an improvement over 87 and saw better performance improvement from my 5 star tune.
I ran nothing but 87 on my company Ecoboost truck that I put over 130k on. My company has well over 150 Ecoboost F150s that are used as parts deliver and outside sales trucks, and we run nothing but 87 in all of them. Some tow heavy on a regular basis and some don't. We generally auction them off between 150k to 200k miles. - BenKExplorerTakes more than one tank of higher octane before the ECU will relearn HOW2 manage
Even longer if driven gingerly TRYING to get higher MPG
You must demand power mode often and for long periods of time
So the ECU will relearn to generate a new fuel mapping table(s) for Power Mode, which will also affect MPG
Maybe the OEM has limited the level of Power Mode allowed. So even aviation fuel won't mske a difference and if so, a tune will be needed
Plus there are other attributes in play. Main two are thermal limits and the auto trannys computer algorithms - riven1950ExplorerWe run 87 now. We did try 93 on a long trip to the Keys. We got about 1.5-2 mpg better with 93. I think it took a couple fill up to adjust and help. With the difference in pump price we have decided that it is not worth the change. Could not tell difference in power.

- 2112Explorer II87. I ran a tank of 91 while towing and did not notice any performance or mileage difference. 90K miles and still running strong.
- bikendanExplorerRegular towing and not towing.
- Grit_dogNavigator IIHaha, the first argument wasn’t enough? You’re going to give someone a coronary here!
- ROBERTSUNRUSExplorer:) Hi, I only run 87 octane in mine.
- srt20ExplorerI usually run 88oct e-15, because its cheaper then 87oct here. No noticeable change in mpg or power. I did use 91oct no ethanol a few tanks. One tank actually got worse mpg (I think a fluke, or maybe crappy fuel), the rest were all the same as 88oct.
I use 88oct e-15 in all my vehicles. No noticeable mpg change in any and its cheaper.
When I check mpg for different fuels, I break it all the way done to cost per mile. Cheapest per mile gets used.
My old Ram with hemi got quite a bit better mpg with 91oct no ethanol. But at that time the cost per mile was slightly better with 87oct e-10 - dubdub07Explorer

Regular. Higher octane fuel in the F150 is a complete waste of money, truck won't take advantage of the extra octane.
I have a Taurus SHO with the 3.5 Ecoboost. I will run a tank of midgrade occasionally and I can tell a difference in power and MPGs....
