What is F450 crew cab Payload

I am on the hunt for my next RV hauler. Both truck campers and 5th wheels. What are you seeing for payload numbers on full feature F450's?

  • I missed that link earlier. Looks like some good detailed info. Thanks.
Maybe I should look at getting a cab & chassis and adding a pickup bed. Wonder how involved that would be.
  • If the rear axle is the same as used in a cab chassis version, then I get that. I looked at one recently and could have sworn it said 4500ish payload.

According to the clicky I left you the F450 pickup and cab & chassis both use the M300 Dana....different spring packages plus the CC has larger rear brakes and a larger diameter rear axle shaft (1.64 dia/41 spline vs 1.47 dia/37 axle spline)

Spend some time and look through all the clicky link super duty 250/350 srw and drw/450 pickup weight specs and 350/450/550 cab and chassis specs. Just about all the answers are there for weight specs and mechanical same as...... or the differences.
  • Ya, I get the impression folks that go F450 for a truck camper likely don't worry about payload. If the rear axle is the same as used in a cab chassis version, then I get that. I looked at one recently and could have sworn it said 4500ish payload. The tighter steering would be very nice to have.

Are the 19.5 wheels larger in diameter?
  • My 1999 F450 was 15k lb, but since then- not only California "invented" weight stickers for GCVW, but also new smog laws, what forces 15k vehicles to replace and update engine every 20 years.
No wonder Ford dropped the printed number.
But leaving paper ratings on side, it is rear axle capacity that counts with TC and my F350 has 9900lb axle and about 3000 lb empty weight on the rear.
    Easy enough for you?
  • For some reason, newer Fords are limited to a 14000 GVWR. I think someone suggested it’s to meet some state rules. In any case, the F450 in pickup form has a different set of gears 4.30, brakes, has a different spring pack, and can turn tighter than a F350 in most years. It also has 19.5 tires that are tougher, but ride rougher.

    Fwiw, my 2010 F450 has a 14500 GVWR.
  • That 14,000 gvwr is an arbitrary number to fit the truck into a certain weight class on paper.
It isn’t the actual capacity of the truck.
In fact all the payload ratings so many camper people worry about are exactly that.
  • Well...but...the numbers on the fender "F-450" impress the heck out of me!
  • clicky link
Less than the same equipped F350 DRW. Both 6.7 trucks carry the same 14000 gvwr and 9900 rawr....so the F450 is a bit heavier = less payload.

Now if you moved up the F450 6.7 chassis cab with a haulers bed you get up to a 16500 gvwr and big 12880 rawr for 9000 + lb payloads
