What is going on with the underbelly of this Jayco?

I recently had to cut a hole in the bottom of my 22 year old TT. I have a outside compartment door that leaks under the bathroom closet. It usually just drips a few drips inside. A couple of weeks ago I got caught in a storm that dropped 7 inches of rain on me in a couple of hours. The leak get bigger then!!
I had water on the floor inside of the compartment.

When I got the TT home and in the shop I started looking and found water on top of that plastic. I cut a few small drain holes at fist and then made the hole just big enough to get my hand in there and pull out the wet insulation. I did get a couple of cuts and did a little bleeding but, was happy to find the wet insulation was in a small area.

I did not cut a hole nearly that big and I think that one was caused by the TT hitting something.

If it is dry in there I would seal it up better and go. I wouldn't leave it like that though. Water could easily get in there going down the road on a rainy day.

You need to rig up some sort of patch.

I've had to cut my underbelly on my Jayco. The fresh water fill valve was leaking. I had to drain some water, pull out a little insulation, and pull out the tank. BUT, I used Gorilla Tape to put it all back together and unless you are really looking you wouldn't notice. Repairs happen, but that looks like really shoddy work in my opinion.

It may be nothing to worry about. I have had to open up the underbelly of our rig several times. Once because of a stuck drain valve on the grey water, once because the mfg put a self tapping screw through the fill tube (took awhile to find that puppy) once because the water tank was drooping- my point is, my rig is in great shape- better than new in many ways- but yes, the underbelly has been cut. And it took me awhile to figure out how to best repair it.

With the ragged edge and the scuff marks on the Darco it looks like a "oh shucks" hole. Oh shucks, I should not have gone over that thing in the road I should have gone around.

Could be any of the things previously suggested by other posters. Only you can decide if the price/problem ratio is within the range you would be willing to tolerate. It would depend a lot on how handy you think you are. To some a gutted RV is a fun project. To some it's a terrible headache. Obviously a 10 YO used rig is not going to be in the same condition as one just off the line.

Sometimes in order to do a repair like repairing a holding tank, it has to be cut. But it should have been cut and repaired cleanly.

I think that the problem existed in some form causing a water issue down there. Someone initially sliced the area to let out things and dry things out and then taped up the area. It failed during a trip down the road and ripped the hole you are seeing now.
