I've towed trailers since the 70's and never have understood the logic of modern towing.
Back then I had a 1/2 ton pickup with drum brakes all the way around, rear wishbone suspension with coil springs, a non lockup T400 and 3:73 gears.
Towed 10's of thousands of miles with this setup and my dad towed to Alaska and back two time with this setup and all over the US. Never once did I feel out of control when I was towing and the setup never felt out of control when my dad was towing a 7K TT.
And we had a "Cadillac" setup with our pickup; literally because we towed with a real nice pickup at the time and some towed with a Cadillac car or big old Buick wagons.
Fast forward to todays trucks. The new half tons are way, way, way bigger, stronger, faster, more powerful and better in every way shape and form. And yet some insist that the "new" trucks are more dangerous or less competent to tow with then what I have been doing easily for over 35 years? What the...............????????
I have no doubt that there are half tons out there that are a waaaaaay better towing rig (bigger, stonger, safer, ect)than my old 69 pickup and even my 93 3/4 ton diesel. And my old 93 diesel is a very nice tow rig to this day.
But yet some people on this forum say towing a 7 or 8K TT is dangerous with a modern 1/2 ton pickup. :h I just don't get it?
