What is this dealership trying to do???

It is the buyers responsibility to have a proper hitch to tow the trailer bought. If the dealer wants to throw a hitch into the deal then it is written into the sales contract, it eats into dealers profit. I will not give the dealer my hitch or wd bars.

Just delete messages like that and pretend you never got them. Pretend you're as dumb as a salesman.

Three years earlier, with a NEW TT, we got stuck with an old mattress. They wouldn't give us a new one. Last fall when we stored it, the coils were coming through the cover so we tossed it.
I called and reminded them that we were "shorted" a new mattress with the TT, and we had to toss the old one away. We didn't have another one for the MH, and I told them we needed to keep it. Sales person said that would be fine... but would ask the manager. They never mentioned it again, until 2 weeks after the deal closed and we were gone. Then they wanted it.

What happened to the mattress that came with the MH? If you kept the mattress from the TT you wouldn't need the mattress that came with the MH.

Oh, and I used the 3M hangers too. (GO, BIFF!) They ended up with my Roush Racing clings on the glass of the door and the Roush Racing/Roush Yates decals. Took down about 30 of the hangers. :) I did have a few of the Command hangers not come off. I know I installed them right, but when I pulled the tabs, they wouldn't release. That's fine though. I have to say that whoever bought our camper got a GEM. There were no marks on anything... Looked brand new except for being dirty from the snow and bad weather.

LASTLY... shall I take better pix, and put it on Craig's List? Do you guys think $200 is what I should try to get or more? I'll follow your lead. And THANKS!

One argument on the WDH I would have used with the dealer is that when you buy a TT, it never comes with a WDH. So why would you have to turn over something that wasn't OEM. And in some cases (as in say a 1 ton truck), WDHs aren't even used.

Kept my whole hitch setup when I traded for the 5er. I had a reese 1200 WDH and the dual cam sway also. sold all this on craigs list for 200.00 not what I had in it but gave me fuel money for a trip. Dealership never asked for it and I removed it their parking lot. I took everything I had put on the camper off except a magazine rack and some racing decals. All pictures were placed using the 3m contact things. BUT I did not want to leave holes in the wall so I left the rack.

If you left part of the hitch weight distribution or sway control components attached to the tongue of the camper, I'd say the parts you kept are pretty worthless.
If it is complete, and if it is one of the big name brand hitches that currently sell for $1000.00 (or more), I should think you'd be able to get half that fairly easily.

We left NOTHING attached to the camper. The sway bar is a Draw-Tite brand. If it helps any, Larry took some photos of the rest of the hitch we removed.

The worst part is they are getting more rude each time. I was appalled at the reaction about my mattress, when I told the guy I said it would not be there. I even found the TEXT between the sales person and myself. And yet, he said he doesn't CARE what was said between us. The fact remained that he sold my camper and now HE had to come up with a mattress and a hitch for them at his expense. I don't get it at all with the hitch. The mattress was discussed because they sold me the first camper with a bad one in it. And it was three years old and ruined, so I tossed it. End of story.


For now, it's done. I will see them in a few days. Hope they don't bring it up again. They still have an awning and a shower door to replace. That's in writing, I made sure of it. And even that they are to sell me the two additional slide canvas covers at their cost when I replace them in the next year or so. We'll see...

If I bought your trade-in from the dealer, I would have to buy it "as-is". That is how they took it from you - "as-is". You made no warranties, nor signed a "you-owe" list. Remind them of these two facts, and they will likely stop asking for more.

In this way, you can keep your relationship positive, so they will be willing to perform warranty work on your new MH.

As for "every dealer is only being interested in money", I have to disagree. There are many dealers that are truly interested in being fair to their customers, as that is a way to get referral and repeat business. If we come to terms on a deal, both parties feel they are getting a fair deal. They won't make a deal that shorts them, and you won't make a deal you feel shorts you. Don't distrust all dealers, as you don't feel you should be distrusted. Treat others with the respect, and skepticism, you expect to be treated with. Some people can deal on handshakes, and others require written documentation.
