Curious, would you please identify those critical parts being left off that would save a ton of repairs? And how much would it add to the cost of a rig if the manufacturer never used one of those cheap parts and instead used the best part available. And where would you draw the line between best part and cheaper alternatives?
Some to me would be an obvious improvement - tires for example. Apparently there are a few new trailers showing up with factory supplied, made in the USA Goodyear Endurance tires. As discussed in other threads it's still way too early to conclude whether Goodyear has made a significant advance with this tire but some of us have made the bet that they have by investing in a set as replacements on our own trailers. Nonetheless, that would be one area where trailer manufacturers could make a significant improvement, even if it costs we consumers more - tires that don't self destruct.
Another item would be using metal or self lubricating equalizer bushings rather than the ubiquitous nylon bushings that wear out in no time at all. Although these wear the Lippert name I think I may replace my worn out nylon bushings with Never Fail Bushings next time I have the wheel bearings serviced.
Third, using EPDM rubber membrane and self leveling lap sealant, though time proven, sure seems outdated in an age when we're beginning to see self driving cars. Surely the industry could do better than this if it wanted to, the question being - does it really want to when companies like Dicor would no doubt dearly love for us to continue buying millions of tubes of their lap sealant year after year? I think we all know the answer.
If the wheels don't fall off my rig and it doesn't leak I can deal with most anything else myself. ;)
Lippert and Never Fail do not go together. A better idea may be bronze bushings and wet bolts. Personally I avoid anything Lippert if possible. Too bad its almost impossible. I seen a high priced Oliver trailer a few weeks back and it was full of Lipperts junk including windows.
