Competition ? There are more companies building RV's now than ever before. Does Thor and FR own a lot of them ? Sure they do, but in truth, in an overall sense that probably brings more advantage to the marketplace than disadvantage. Larger corporate purchasing tends to lower costs overall, and whether we want to admit it or not, that helps translate into lower retail pricing ( also increased corporate profit I admit ).
There are not more companies building RVs, there are more brands built by a few companies. With Thors acquisition of Jayco, and Winnebagos acquisition of Grand Design, market share is well over 80% between three companies no matter the brand. Thor Industries, Forest River, and Winnebago. Typically Thor has around 42 to 45% share, Forest River 38 to 40%, and Winnebago roughly 9 to 10% in a given month. That's not a lot of crumbs leftover for the others, which is the main reason many independents went under over the course of the last few years. A situation such as this is never good for the consumer from any standpoint.
