Where to plug in trailer lights on a Lance 1181?

You need a hitch extension to tow the boat, right?

Mount the socket for your trailer plug extension on the hitch extension.

Install the hitch extension and the trailer plug extension before you load the camper. Then hitch up the boat at the trailer extension as if you were hitching to the stock receiver on the truck.

Good points and questions. The previous owner wired a pigtail and extension to the camper so that it could be plugged into the trucks 7-pin. As for plugging it in, the sellers showed me that when they were backing the truck up to the camper, they stopped about two feet short, plugged the camper into the rear bumper, then backed the truck the rest of the way then lowered the camper...

I assume your using an extended hitch? In that case the hitch could have female plug at the ball end-short extension plugged into truck, prior to loading camper. Either a Y, added receptacle, to bumper or dedicated bed plug for camper(my 1st choice) freeing bumper plug.

Many ways to get there-I suppose the extension could be attached to camper. Curious about plugging in the boat 'being a pain', as it sounds like your getting under there now to plug in camper? Secondly I thought Lance still had the proprietary plug? how are you using the trucks 7 pin RV receptacle?

Plugging in before or after is a pain for sure. In my instance the camper is so long and hangs down to the bottom of the camper, I don't think I can plug the boat in the truck bumper with the camper on...

The camper is a 2005 1181, and the truck is a 2007 Chevy 3500HD DRW, quad cab.

I'll have to call the Lance dealer and see if they can do this for me.

I added the wiring harness from etrailer and installed the drivers side receptacle. Now I can plug in the camper and leave the bumper plug in for a trailer. Works great and is really east to install if you have the right sized drill for the large hole in the side of the truck bed. Just remember to plug into the receptacle BEFORE you load the camper. It can be a pain to plug in AFTER. Ask me how I know.

you can buy a wye cable that plugs into your current bumper plug or install an in-bed plug like hey do for towing 5th wheels.

The Lance recepticle is installed by your local Lance dealer, you reach through the access door to plug your campers Lance plug in it

WHat make, model and year is your truck?

(the wiring needed to make this happen is a function of the truck, not the camper.)

What he means is "add a driver's side truck bed receptacle"

Places such as Etrailer will have a pigtail that connects to the factory wiring under the truck bed, and adds a receptacle, which is mounted in the truck bed.
