Nothing wrong with your statment about the 6.0 beeing a good engine after a few mods have been made.
with an EGR bypass, a good programmer, and a few aftermarket add-ons totaling around 3-4k they are a good and very powerful engine.
one of our fleet trucks was a 6.0, it had been in the shop 12 times in 2 years with less than 70k on it, We done the things i said above and it never had another problem for the next 200k.
My cousin is a ford fleet mechanic and out of 8 trucks with 6.0-6.4 he had the cab off 4 at one time with head problems, after doing these mods he said they were much more reliable and powerful, If ford would have just addressed these problems they would not have the reputation they have today.
the reason we bought Fords for our fleet was the cost alone, and same for where my cousin works, the owners new Dodge had the better engine, but when the bean counters run the show it's all about the numbers.
