It would certainly mean smaller rpm transitions between gears.
But someone at the Chrysler Group should have lost their job in the early 2000s for allowing the Cummins powered trucks to still be saddled with a 4 speed auto trans until 2007...
And by the same token, taken out and flogged for allowing the 68rfe to live for more than a couple years behind the same engine.
