Nooo duuuuude....If you put your 4x4ord hat on and get enough torque rise out of a Cummins, a Powerglide would be the bees knees!

Exactly .... the need to downshift on hills is to increase the rear wheel torque. If the engine has enough torque rise to keep the power curve flat a downshift does absolutely nothing, other than maybe cause poor fuel economy. Going from a 6 to a 10 speed behind a Duramx is a big deal but with the Cummins it's not going to do much for it when it comes to climbing a grade. My point is pretty obvious to anyone who wants to see it ... I think you've got to have your eyes closed if you can look at how different the torque/power curves are of the Duramax/Cummins and not recognize that the Cummins does not need as many gears as its competition to make use of its power.
