4 x 4ord - another rule of power transmission is the higher rpm the torque is delivered through the system the less the stress on components.
So engine in line blue needs fewer “speeds” but heavier components behind it than line red.
High torque rise is why locomotives and electric rubber tire machines don’t have multi speed transmissions between the traction motors and the wheels.
