Will 3M VHB Tape damage fiberglass?

not sure where to post this topic, so I'll start here. I am thinking about temporarily mounting some plastic or aluminum to the outside of my camper using 3m VHB tape and was wondering if it will damage the fiberglass when removed.

Thanks in advance

It is somewhat sensitive to chemicals. If it is a thickish version, you can get thin wire (like piano wire) underneath and saw through the tape. Now it is exposed and a little acetone or MEK or something will soften the adhesive. Not a job I would volunteer for, but it is usually doable.
But why bother? OP just needs to find something that won't pull the siding off.

  • I concur. The 2 front solar panels are bonded with 3M VHB tape. Hope these panels are good for a long time, if not, it will be a real nightmare to remove:S

  • VHB is an impressive example of chemical and mechanical engineering... working on the atomic level, it forms a bond stronger than the materials being bonded.

Watch some of the youtube videos from 3m suppliers demonstrating the stuff.
  • VHB is touted as a replacement for screws and spot welding. It is not meant to ever be removed although there are ways to do it. I suggest you find a different tape, anything but VHB
  • Heat will not affect VHB tape it is a construction type tape. It is what is holding my solar panels to the roof of the camper for the last 5 years. That said there are different grades of VHB tape check the 3m site but I don't think they make a temp. use tape, it is for permanent use, I myself would not use it for what you want to do.
  • If you heat it, it will probably come off easily as the adhesive on most tape is heat sensitive. You should look at the instructions for the particular tape you want to use though. BTW, it also means that if it gets hot, it might release unexpectedly.
