EDIT: This is done and a pic has been added of the finished rock guard ........Below was the beginning of my original post .....I am now looking to just use the existing rock guard but wanting to find a way to make it look somewhat new again with decal removal, prep and paint and buying a new decal.Please see my last post (2-27-13 4:00) for new questions.______________________________________________________________________I have a new (new to me) 1996 Fleetwood Prowler with a front window flip up rock guard covering that has turned all yellow and you really can't even see the prowler face or pin-stripe on it at all anymore (you can just see where it used to be).Is there a way to just replace that yellow insert and not the entire frame and all?I see that it is kinda held into the frame with some sort of rubber gasket (almost like the round rubber you find in a screen door to hold in the screen to the frame)and looks like it can come out.Anyone on here know where you can get replacements for these or do they make some sort of full decal that can stick onto the existing one to cover the entire thing (Cause the thing is not broke in anyway just looks bad and yellow and throws off the rest of the white trailer ... then maybe buy some custom made prowler decals to go on it)?Thanks so much for any info you can provide on this issue I have. :)

What material is the rock guard? I replaced my fiberglass guard with vinyl-coated aluminum sheet. Still thinking about what type of logo or design to put on it, I'm not married to the mfg.'s name or logo (could get creative, here).

You might try some awesome or Spray 9 and a scrub brush. It is amazing how those yellowed sections around windows can be returned to almost white with a few scrubs and applications.

Spray it with Krylon Fusion paint. Find a graphics company and have them make whatever you want to put on it.

My experience is that once it's faded and turned yellow....the only cure is to paint it. Krylon Fusion applied according to the instructions on the can will work well. You may want to remove it to paint it,B.O.

My brother works in a sign shop and he is going to design a new one for us as well. The owner will make the sign for free for us, but i need to do a little welding for them. I will post pics probably in the spring.

Well its now done ... used the Krylon Fusion flat white for a couple base coats and the gloss white for the finish. I turned the rock guard around to the back side since it was still descent and not all faded rough fiberglass. I painted the both sides (to cover up the original stuff.

After finishing the painting I cleaned to get the white residue and get a nice smooth finish and applied a decal I purchased on eBay for $76.

Just made sure i had it lined up and measured out perfectly and laid down the vinyl decal.

Put the rock guard back in with a new back seal and re-installed the back frame and tape and this was the finished product.

Sorry, didn't mean to leave you hanging. I use those 3M sanding pads, seem to do the job and cleans up easier. Sandpaper works well too.

Are you spraying the paint on out of a can? If so, here's a tip that will make your spray can paint more uniform: Shake the can vigorously for a minute or so and then put it in a container of hot water ( I use a plastic coffee can). After a minute or two, take the can out and shake it some more. Put it back in the hot water. After 5-10 minutes of hot bath, shake, and paint. Make sure you wipe the water bits off the can.

I figured scuffing was to lightly sand ... I used some 200 and something grit sandpaper and scuffed the paint and it worked well ... brought down the weird bright glossy spots then when hit with another coat of paint looked a lot better.

Gonna go over it one more time with a light mist of paint and then wash of the leftover white residue after complete and it should be ready for the decal.

I will be sure to post pictures after completed.

Well the decal is headed this way and the fiberglass rock guard has a few coats of paint ... flat for the base and used Gloss to finish.

Not to pleased at how it looks though ... seems like it has spots where its shinier then others and you can tell that its for lack of a better "Spray Painted".

I paid almost 80 bucks for the decal now I'm wondering if I want to figure something else out and not waste all that money if the decal doesn't stick right and the rock guard basically looks funky with the weird spray paint look.

Not sure what to do now .. I may call and see if I can find a replacement rock guard or something.

Any thoughts?

Well I got the rock guard from the trailer ... bought some Fusion spray paint (got white and dover white ... Dover is to creamy white so that was a waste but thought just maybe).

Gonna crape as much decal off as I can and paint the current side white.

Then I will be taking my time on painting the back side of the fiberglass rock guard as that will not be my new front side.

Gonna throw a flat down to start and then a final coat out satin to finish it off and make it look new again.

Bought a 48" x 22" Prowler decal to go on this bad boy once it's all done.

Should turn out great I hope.
