winter storage of pop up truck camper

Whats the best way to store a pop up truck camper, open or closed position? Im thinking about storing in the open position as im thinking there would be less chance of mice chewing on canvas. It will be in my pole shed. I have tried the dryer sheets in the past . The mice actually used the sheets for nesting material. I also have bar bait out. Thanks in advance for any storage tips!

  • Hi:. Try an good quality mouse squealer from TSC. One that you can put in your attic and leave it plugged in all winter inside the camper. Cheers
  • Be careful with the bar bait - that stuff kills everything in the food chain. In other words, if a mouse is dying from eating it (takes about a week) and an owl nabs it, it will kill the owl, too. Or fox. Or neighbor's cat.

I would sprinkle mothballs around it; and as others have said, limit access to it, if possible
  • If there's no way in and nothing that smells like food inside to encourage them to make their own entrance, they will leave it alone.

Having the roof up gives them all sorts of easy access through the canvas. Leave it down.

Mine spends the winter in a pole barn too, top down, on the jacks and some sawhorses, or the cart I made for it that doesn't work very well. Cleaned, sanitized, and all food removed. So far so good.

It probably doesn't hurt that I firebomb the barn with Tomcat pellets. Only problem is next door has two cats now that run loose...
  • Try regular doses of peppermint oil.

There are several products out there that use peppermint or peppermint oil as the primary ingredient.

I have used one such product ("Mouse Magic") with very good results.

As far as access to the TC, don't help them get into it. They will easily climb up power cords. They can jump a bit too, so I don't leave ours all the down on the jacks.
