winterizing-leave fresh water tank open or closed?

I'm getting ready to winterize my TT for first time. Upstate NY so using pink AF. Just wondering what I do with the fresh water tank? Do I leave the valve open or closed for the winter. And also I read to open up a faucet to release pressure after I pump the AF thru system. Do I just open any faucet and then just close that faucet? And do I leave the low system drains closed to keep the AF in tubes or open the low drains when done pumping AF?

  • Drain fresh water tank then CLOSE drain valve

Leave low point drains CLOSED after you get red-pop coming out...otherwise ALL you red-pop will drain out
  • I drain the tank thoroughly then leave the main drain valve shut to prevent any entry by critters. I do leave the pressure relief valve open but that has a mesh screen so no bugs would get in that way. In the Spring, I fill and flush the tank then do the Bleach trick to sanitize the tank. This has been working for me fine for 8 years now.
  • I disconnect fresh water tank from Plumbing. There is always some water in the tank specially since I do not level my MH for the winter and I feel that since the plumbing is below the tank the potential for water to get into the plumbing and freeze exists. I flush the tank before use the next year. You could tape over the outlet I suppose but I do not. If worried about bugs spray the area before closing for winter
  • I like to open it and drain, then go for a drive up hill and down, usually a lot more will come out. If you have an idea of where the tank drain comes out, try and park so that point will be higher than the bottom of the tank so any left over water will not be in that small drain hole.

I leave fresh water tank drain open. I blow out my lines so I leave all the valves open.Don't how RVers handle the anti freeze in their lines. That pink stuff does freeze. Just not hard. It gets like thick pudding in WY weather. The grey and black tank I pour enough anti freeze in to cover dump valves and fill traps Also pour some over toilet valve.

The pink stuff does just what you say, which is exactly what it's designed to do. The most important thing is to make sure you don't have it diluted. Loses strength really fast.
  • keep drain closed...

it is a perfect spot for bugs or rodents to crawl in to if left open./
