- A 445 ci gas engine in 2020.. Wow... And they say they are doing it for better fuel mileage ratings..
Cast iron block, push rods... Wow..
If I needed a 3/4 ton truck, that's what I would be looking at..

Mitch - jerem0621Explorer IIThe new gas engines are exciting. Especially the 7.3l Godzilla. Super excited about it.
Thanks!
Jeremiah - spoon059Explorer IIIAs we made our way down I95 towards Florida today, I was struck by fuel prices. In North Carolina gas was under $2 a gallon, while the cheapest diesel price I saw was $2.74. I'm paying almost 50% more for diesel, but I doubt I'm getting 50% better fuel economy.
Couple that with the fact that when we get on the island in Florida, the diesel truck is gonna HATE the short, low speed trips to get around. A gas engine would be much better for when we arrive.
Times like this sure make me interested for the future of a gas engine truck. If longevity and fuel economy increase, I could see myself interested in a less expensive gas truck in the future... - Me_AgainExplorer III"What are you most excited about?" The fact that I bought a 3500 in 2015!

I'm excited for the new gassers, I've got an 02 Chevy with the 6.0 and the 4 spd and 225k miles. It struggles some with my 8000lb TT, so it is about time for a new one. My camper is not heavy enough to need diesel, and my 6 mile commute would not be diesel friendly.
I was leaning Ram 6.4, but heard the tranny wasn't geared well. The Chevy 6.0 I was worried didn't have quite enough oomph, and I just didn't like the Ford (not sure why).
For 2020 Chevy will have a new 6.6 gas engine. I have a '16 Chev 4x4 CC reg bed with the 6.0 and 6 spd and it tows just fine. My TT is about 10K loaded plus I tow a 14K dump trailer and a 14K PJ tilt bed with no problems. Plenty of power and the 6 speed with 4.10 gears does a great job.
I like that the big 3 will be all be close in towing capability. Like the new GMC tailgate step. I don't travel far enough to justify a diesel either. Maybe if I won the lottery I'd order one. - wowens79Explorer IIII'm excited for the new gassers, I've got an 02 Chevy with the 6.0 and the 4 spd and 225k miles. The transmission in the Ram gasser should be a huge improvement! I doubt the 7.3 Ford will have better mpg, and have more power than the 6.2, but just one or the other, will make for a great TV. It would be nice if they were all less money too, but no matter the price, they will sell.
Jerry - IdaDExplorerThe most interesting thing to me will be how the new gas trucks with the 8 and 10 speed transmissions perform. Especially the new 7.3 Ford. If they substantially narrow the gap with the diesels they could be a really viable option for a lot of people on the gas/diesel fence.
- danrclemExplorerI think that the 7.3 Ford could be the big news if the power ratings are quite a bit above the 6.2. If the power is considerably more than a 6.2 and the fuel consumption is less I can see these taking the place of a lot of diesels that don't tow huge loads.
I'd like to be one of the first buyers but I wouldn't buy a first year engine and I wouldn't buy a new vehicle. Maybe in a few years if they prove themselves I might want to replace my 6.2. - 4wheelingNUT__ExplorerYes, I agree on the big gas burners. They will appeal to lots of weekenders, and flatlanders. You will get alot of truck with lots of capabilities, at a much lower cost I'm sure. Can't wait to see the power numbers, and torque. I think they will produce a good adequate amount. Hasn't been to long ago, when a 460, or a 454 was the tow kings. I think the new big gassers will be a hit for alot of folks.
